Adventures at Comic Book Day 5

 By Peter Tanyanyiwa
Once again the geek, nerd and gaming community of Zimbabwe recently gathered to share in fun, fandom and merchandise and yet another Comic Book Day. The Comexposed held its fifth comic book marketplace event, ‘Comic Book Day 5’, at Zimbabwe German Society.  The day saw people from all walks of life and all ages gather for a day of food, comics, gaming and cosplay. The event was hosted by Tinodiwa Zambe Makoni and Eugene Ramirez Mapondera cofounders of Comexposed Convention and hosts of the online YouTube webshow of the same name.
This month’s installment witnessed new releases from local comic book artists as well as new additions to the regular program with live performances from up-and-coming young artists. Bill Masuke released his latest instalment of Razor-man – Razor-man issue #5, James Magwenzi dropped a two comics on the same day – Shark Finn part 1 and 2.  Right next to them was Arther Manyenya with his brand new title Lucid Racer published under local comic publisher Afro Tokyo. To add to all this awesomeness Dan Muwanigwa returned to exhibit after a long absence showing of his beautiful digital art, CCX Comics also exhibited for the first time with their brand new character ‘Gambanyika’ and with live drawing demonstrations showing the comic making process.

Comic Book Day would not be complete without great food and Burger Boys did not disappoint with piping hot, fresh burgers on the ready all day, much welcomed by the gamers who showed they long practiced skills playing Street Fighter 5 ant the gaming station.  The day ended all too soon but not without an exciting new promise from the event hosts Tino and Eugene announce that Comexposed will be holding its first out-of-Harare event in July with the first ‘Comic Book Day 6’ in Bulawayo.  Soon after that the Annual Comexposed Digital Arts Convention will take place on August 12.
