Zim hiphop has been on the up and up lately and looking at the growth and opportunities being created by platforms and brands like the Zim Hiphop awards, Changamire Hiphop festival, Shoko festival, the Zim Hiphop Summit, Urban Craft magazine and Brayzz Africa just to mension a few, those brighter days are surely not that far off!
I recently had an awesome opportunity to interview one of the new and exciting femcees on the scene right now.
She is talented, she is beautiful! I am talking about none_other than Harare's own Nial Ainca and this is how our conversation went....

Keilloe > Give us a short insight into yourself?

@nial_ainca > I'm an 18 year old rapper. Ventured into rap late June this year. Born and bred in Zimbwean and I am into a lot of other works of creativity, music being on top of this list but I am also into book writing, script writing and fashion design.

Keilloe > Tell us about the new projects you are working on.....

@nial_ainca > I'm working on a few singles and my EP but I can't really say much because I like taking my time to make sure I'm not just releasing quantity but quality.

Keilloe > How best do you plan to pernetrate the market?

@nial_ainca > My target market is the youth and basically anyone and everyone who loves music and can relate to my music. So getting to perform my music and getting it played at parties and clubs would really help me because we are now entering into the party season so this festive I'd love to give the people something that hypes them up for the whole season.

Keilloe > What challenges have you encountered?

@nial_ainca > So far I've met a lot of people who've promised to take me far with my music but don't really plan on doing that and I've realised that it's going to happen a lot and I have to move carefully in this market because there is no point in working with people who don't have your best interests at heart.

Keilloe > How best do you plan to distribute your work as a new artist?

@nial_ainca > I distribute my music basically on all music sharing platforms on social media before I go physical, talk of sharing links on Twitter, instagram, Facebook, I also have sound cloud as well I upload my music on datafile host and on YouTube to make it easy for people outside the Zimbabwean boundaries to access my music, and basically spread the links on whatsapp as well.

Keilloe > Ofcourse before you start going to radio with your music you will want to create awareness of the music everywhere, especially online. Remember radio only has local audiences compared to the internet which has billions and billions of people in and outside local boundaries so by adding your music online you are on your way to creating an international brand and make it easy for people outside your country to access your music.

Keilloe > What has the response to your music been like thus far?

@nial_ainca > So far the fans love it and they are constantly encouraging me to keep doing what I do. Then of course there are people who always criticizing me for doing the thing I love but I don't really pay much attention to their negative energy because at the end of the day they will still hate and we will still be doing our best up and up on a daily.

Keilloe > What do you think about zim entertainment & what it needs at moment?

@nial_ainca > The Zim entertainment scene has improved a lot in recent years but it's not where it's supposed to be, especially in terms of hiphop. A lot of people still criticize hiphop a lot and it will not succeed until people support each other. It really needs good promoters who are about the music, not the money. It needs people who really want to make a difference in the industry. I have seen a lot of talent but without the talent being backed, it goes to waste, simple as that.

Keilloe > looking ahead, what should we look forward to from you in the coming years?

@nial_ainca > Definitely An album, mixtape and lots of singles with people from different countries and genres too.

Keilloe > Who are you looking forward to working with?

@nial_ainca > There are loads of artists that I would love to work with but currently I am looking forward to working with Tamy and Takura as well as Hillzy. I'm a big fan of what they are doing and it would be an honour to be part of the experience of working with such brands.

Keilloe > What influenced you to start doing music?

@nial_ainca > I have always loved music from a very tender age and I always wanted to sing and I feel like I've gone through so much in life and music was the only platform I could use to express how I feel.

Keilloe > As a new artist what do you think you require the most?

@nial_ainca > I need support before anything else. The only way one can make it is by support and the fans can stay up to date with me via instagram or Facebook @nial_ainca on instagram and @nial ainca on facebook.

Keilloe > Any last words?

@nial_ainca > Thank you Keilloe for this awesome interview, as well as urban craft magazine and Brayzz Africa for such a awesome experience. This is just the beginning, I'm going to make Zimbabwe proud.

Keilloe > From afar, it is easy to dismiss zim hiphop from this point, but there is talent to be recognized here.
Don't forget you too can be a part of this platform by simply telling us who you want us to interview next, get us to interview your favorite entertainer in and outside Zim. Stay tuned and enjoy your summer and festive season with sunny regards.
