UK based singer/songwriter Valerie Sibanda has promised a visually-stimulating work of art when the video to her latest single "What U Need", drops early this November 3rd.
"What fans can expect is an Art Fever! I am taking the world to see a different part of London, a vibrant buzzing scene, food markets and exoticness; you'd think you were somewhere in the Caribbean.
"The weather was so good to me and my team. Expect to see colours and lots and lots of Art. Expect some sexy dancing and just some beautiful visuals between me and the Actor Richard - who was an absolute sport!
"My video was produced by an awesome director, Ini Brisco from Innex Pictures Productions. He is responsible for videos such as 'Badda Man' by Dj Sean with over 1 million views on Youtube. He brought an awesome team together from the Cinematographer who has worked for the BBC, an awesome choregrapher Tarek K who has really worked with some of the best Artists in Music such as; Cheryl Cole, an awesome glam team Safiya who did my styling; as well as Mahina who did my Fleek Face Beat! It was a great crew and everyone was so professional", said Valerie while speaking to Urban Craft from her base in London.

CONCEPT

"The concept, just like the song, is basically about serenading a guy that you're interested in and just showing him what he is missing out on (wink), in a really fun and flirty way!
"The message of the song is that Love is possible! It's also such an empowerment to the ladies to let them know you don't always have to wait for the guy to make the first move. I mean drop the ball and its okay to a tell a man you want him. That's what grown women do! It's also telling him hey boy, 'I got what U need'. We're too young to be fronting (giggles). Its a bit about my personality too and what I'm discovering more and more about myself and not being afraid to tell it like it is", she said.

The singer/songwriter (and model) was all smiles as she recollected how the song itself came together in the studio.
"For this song I partnered with my music producer Ian Green, he is the man behind some hits from Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake to Madonna.. you name it! We literally just came together in the Studio - I mean usually by the time I am at the recording session, ideally I have the song already written, arranged etc and all that's left is to sing. But I walked into his studio with nothing but the first verse - I'm just so used to making soul music and this pop-soul sound challenged me and got me out of my comfort zone. But its amazing the magic that happened, he just told me to go with my gut and sing what comes from the heart. It didn't take long before we had a catchy tune and a great melody! It was so natural but it was Magic!", said Valerie.

Sibanda said that the response to her latest single had been nothing short of overwhelming and that she couldn't wait to give her fans something worthwhile when the video drops.
"The official release date for the single was June 8th. It's been quite exciting since then, being invited to perform at London's WestSide Radio Urban Talent Competition and as well as the UMA Competition. And also being able to have my Radio Debut released in my Home Town the City of Bulawayo!
"I was on Skyz Metro FM in Bulawayo it was quite amazing, it was like coming back full circle since the beginning of my music journey to where I started. It was a message that this is only the beginning. But the work isn't done yet, I just wrapped up the video and I'm looking to promote more of this amazing song I've had overwhelming support from my fans who are just eager to see the visuals", she said.

She also went on to confirm that the single is just but a teaser to an upcoming EP that she is currently putting together in the studio.
"At the moment this is a single but it's part of an overall EP Project that I will be releasing next year. I've already got a song I just wrapped up with a well known South African producer singing an Afro-house track which I can't reveal too much information on yet; but its all quite exciting...its gonna be Fire, Stay Tuned!
"What I can say is this Album will really reveal who I am as an artist that I'm Versatile and this is why I am taking my time to just create a beautiful piece of work. I have an Afro-Pop song, Afro House, Trap Soul, the What U Need track (Pop) and hopefully you will get to hear a bit of a Ballad which will really show-out my vocals. (smiles) In essence its an Soul Album with all the right flavours!
"I'm working on my press release and photo-shoots at the moment and focused on really getting myself out there! I want to see more people like me win. I look at Artists like Amarra Brown, Nadia Nakai, Tamy and AWA and they are winning and my message is lets keep on winning girls! The world isn't ready for what the South has to offer", said Sibanda.

VALERIE SIBANDA: IN HER OWN WORDS

Well I was born in Zimbabwe in Bulawayo but grew up in London. As far as I can remember I've been singing and performing from a very early age. I grew up with my extended family as most Zimbabweans do, surrounded by my Gogo, cousins, parents etc. I was just surrounded by love and singing was just our way of coming together and worshipping the Lord. But from the Age of 6 I was writing songs, which when I think of it were really cheesy melodies at the time but everybody starts somewhere. I was in almost every choir I could think of, growing up. My first time on stage was at the age of 9. My cousin and I were part of a dancing duo called 'The little Muffins' lol (Covers Face) we performed for Miss Bulawayo 1998 during the interval and one of my aunties who was modelling at the time got us the gig. I remember the excitement, the energy and the love from the audience. My mum was upset because they made us wait till almost midnight before we could perform lol but in the end it was a thrilling performance for all of us. Since then I've modelled, been a winner for Miss Earth London 2008 and also participated in Miss England making it to the Regional Finals. So you see I've always loved the stage but my true passion is Music. I've done a variety of Open Mics and Competitions around England but now is the time to speak my truth and let my voice be heard. In a nutshell I'm a London Artist with an Afro Soul who is ready to take on the Music World.

Thanks for the lovely opportunity to share my story with you. I hope to be back in Africa to share my music and to grace the stage.
