The Zimbabwean Blog Awards Gain Momentum

The Zimbabwean Blog Awards kicked off on the 1st December 2017, orchestrated by the Tribe of Influencers (TOI), to celebrate the talent in the content creation industry in Zimbabwe.

There are 30 categories for content creators such as bloggers, vloggers and podcasters with nominations for the awards beginning on the 1st January 2018. Anyone can nominate a deserving individual on the Tribe of Influencers website.

"We decided to have these categories to ensure that everyone had a category they fell under. We wanted to be very inclusive. Grouping them by their niche will show us which ones need more people to go into especially for aspiring bloggers that aren't sure what to blog about. This gives them options," said Mr Kudzanai Thondhlana the Business Director at the Tribe of Influencers.

After the nominations, all the entries submitted will go through to the public voting segment. This is where they will be required to mobilise their followers to vote for them on the TOI website. For transparency, the poll will be made public so that everyone can see where they rank in the competition.

"The public vote will serve two purposes. The first one is that it will get the masses involved in the process. This will demonstrate how vibrant the blogging industry is in Zimbabwe. The second purpose is to measure the level of influence that the nominee has. Can they convince their loyal followers to vote for them? Do they even have a following? This is how they prove it, through the public vote of the competition," said Thondhlana.

The top four finalists with the most public votes from each category will be shortlisted to go into the final round of the competition. This is where they will be judged by a panel of qualified experts. The judges include Faith Ndlovu, Mike Tashaya, Simukai Whande, Zenzele Ndebele and Charles Muzonzini.

"The judges will be looking at five things for their criteria, which are Usability, Design, Marketing, Analytics and the Content itself. Each judge is an expert at one of the other and that is how we will come up with a winner," explained Thondhlana.

Some of the affiliates of the Zim Blog Awards are blogging associations or content creator groups such as Bloggers Zimbabwe, VMCZ, Harare WordPress Meet Up, Moto Republik, Zimbabwe Online Content Creators, Afrobloggers, Byo Bloggers and Digital Republic.

There are sponsorship opportunities available for the Zim Blog Awards, either as a headline sponsor or a category sponsor. A number of sponsors have already come onboard with official announcements to be made in the coming days.

"Our content creators need to be able to make a living from their craft and we plan to mediate between them and the brands to make this happen. Influencer marketing is still in its infancy in Zimbabwe and by holding these awards and inviting corporates to join in, we are hoping to establish mutually beneficial relations between content creators and brands," stated Thondhlana.
