"Virtue and Vice", a poem by Nomaswazi Tshabalala

My mind was intoxicated
I could not believe what was happening
Alcohol had taken over my mind
He took me by the hand
I followed
He started caressing me
All I could do was to play along
He took advantage of me,
Stripped me naked
Fondled me
All I did was to play along
In a speed of lightning, I felt pain
I was sprawled down on the bathroom floor
The ceramic tiles turned from snowhite to crimson
All I could see was scarlet
He had already taken away my purity
My dignity
The only thing I was proud of
My virginity
That is when I realized that alcohol
Makes you to lose control
I now regret that very day
I wish I could turn back the hands of time
But now I cannot go back
I am damaged,
But I have managed
It will always be a scar for the rest of my life
A stranger took my treasure
