Dj Maya Pioneers the Way

Having played host to international names like Morgan Heritage, Patoranking, Emtee, it is no wonder Dj Maya is a household name in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The talented wheelspinner is no stranger when it comes to accolades and milestones, he is definitely paving the way for the next generation.
"So far, I am the only deejay in Malawi who has won two different deejay competitions back to back (Sprite 2012 and Carlsberg Chill Deejay competition) and I am also the only deejay to have headlined two different festivals in the same year (Sand Music festival and Lake of Stars).
"I have also opened up for Dj Cleo, Profesor(twice), Heavy K(3times, in Lusaka, lilongwe and blantyre)", he said.

The Lilongwe-based dj who picked up the turntables as early as 2007 and was heavily influenced by industry veterans like Dj Diznuts from zambia and Nigeria's Deejay Waxxy describes his journey so far as 'smooth sailing' and is determined to go where noone else has gone before.
"I am working on doing a deejay festival, which so far in Malawi has never been done and I believe that it is something that will not only raise the bar but give our local djs a launching pad.
"With the right support, I see no reason why we can not take our craft to the next level", said Dj Maya.

He is no doubt one of Malawi's most sought-after wheelspinners, and it has seen him being chosen to deejay for Patoranking (Chez Ntemba, Lusaka), Turbulance and  opening for Diamond Platinumz at Sand Music festival in 2016, among others.
