Andile Mpofu : Rising to the Occasion

In the aftermath of the successful Miss Zimbabwe-USA peagent that took place in Boston at the end of May, Urban Craft caught up with the its new Peagent Director, the beautiful Andile Mpofu, who has taken to the role like a duck to water. She has definitely made the role hers!

Mpofu herself is of course no stranger when it comes to Miss Zimbabwe-USA, she took home the crown back in 2016.
"It has been a learning and growing experience for me. I have stretched beyond more than I ever knew I could. I started this role last year during the school year. I look back and wonder where all that strength came from. But through all those pressures and deadlines at school with assignments, work, my own business and everything in between I found myself rising to the occasion and delivering. I love it and enjoy it!", said Andile, who resides in both Washington and Illinois, Chicago.

Looking ahead, the peagent director sees this as a unique opportunity to not only usher in a new era in as far as the peagent is concerned but also make sure it promotes everything good about Zimbabwe.
"My short-term goals in the pageant world is the Miss Zimbabwe- USA pageant. Well, it is not only a short-term goal, it is an on going long term goal. My most immediate goal was the Miss Zimbabwe-USA 2018 pageant which took place in Boston, MA on the 26th of May 2018. It was my first ever pageant to direct and it was a resounding success. I will continue working with the winners to make sure that they represent us (the Zim-usa) community well both in the States and beyond the borders.
"They have very powerful platforms that we are excited to share with the rest of the world very soon. As for my long-term goals, I with everyone’s support hope to participate in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. It is such an expensive competition and so I need a lot of support to make this dream come through. I wish to represent the beautiful country of Zimbabwe in the near future. But above all I continue pushing my platform of 'education for children whilst feeding them for success', this is forever my goal", she said.

"It is a platform that is certainly preparing me for what’s to come. I am learning as much I can from everyone coming my way and making as many connections as I can in order to better the platform that I am a part of", she added.

Being appointed as the peagent director is no doubt changing the world around Andile for the better and so did winning the title itself!
"After taking home the Miss Zimbabwe USA 2016, that’s when I got to know about all these doors to the endless world. I met people that I would have never met in my life had I not been a tittle holder. I have used the platform to open a lot other doors in my life", said Mpofu

For Andile, who is also a Business Economics major studying at North Park University in Chicago, peagentry runs in her blood.
"Pageantry is in my bloodline and I live and breathe pageantry. I was born in a family of two girls and a brother. With my sister, Bathule Mpofu is one of my advisors with my brother being my number one fan. I started modelling at the age of 5 and my mother was my first ever manager and my dad being the role model. My dad was actually the first ever model in the family, I guess I took after him.
"After winning Miss Zimbabwe USA 2016 I went on to compete for Miss Africa Washington State 2016, of which I am also a tittle holder.
"My perspective on life has never been the same after these experiences. It has allowed me to live life beyond myself. From being a role model to others, to being a voice to the voiceless and even to being an ambassador, all this was birthed from pageantry. I still dream and work to make those dream come true as I remember who I am to myself and those around me", she said.

The model has in recent times also put her entrepreneurial skills to the test by also branching out into the jewellery business.
"I have recently launched a jewelry line called Ilothando Creations. Ilothando is more than Afrocentric accessories, it is an experience and a life style. It is an introduction and lesson to the rest of the world that Africa is more than just a continent. It is a rich, beautiful and warm culture, if you care to indulge and explore you will definitely love it!
"I have more of the Ilothando accessories posted on the Instagram page: Ilothando_Creations, I am still working on the online store", said Andile.
