Nicki Kris : Carolina's own 'Heartbeat'

Raleigh, North Carolina based singer Nicki Kris believes that she is exactly where she is supposed to be when it comes to her music, especially the songwriting part of it, at least. Listening to her recent tracks, it is quite evident that she is not far off the mark in making that assertion. There's a certain lyrical depth and level of maturity that her music carries and her two standout singles 'Captain America' and 'Heartbeat' are a true testament to that.
"Mid 2017, I released Captain America, the song, a patriotic Pop Rock anthem has really taken on a life of its own. It has over 850,000 SoundCloud streams, been nominated for a HMMA award and also made the 1st round ballot for the 60th Grammys in multiple categories. It’s really been a wonderful experience seeing how much of an impact this song has had throughout the world.
"I followed up Captain America with a song called Heartbeat in January. I think this song really shows how much more mature my song writing has gotten over the years and puts me into my ‘comfort zone’ in terms of genre, if I really had to pick one", said Kris.

With the succes that these two singles, in particular, have brought, the musician felt that now would was the right time to start putting together a much larger body of work.
"The releases of Captain America and Heartbeat have forged a path towards a 3rd full-length album that I’m currently in the middle of working on. We’re targeting a public release in February 2019 probably during Grammy week in LA. We’ve titled the album Heartbeat and it’s the album that I’ve always wanted to make.
"It definitely puts me in what I’ll call my wheel house in terms of genre. More Adult Alternative or Alternative Pop. We’ve already written 10 of the tracks (there will probably 12 or so) in total and we’re launching a special pre-sale campaign on June 30th, 2018.  I can’t really say much more than that other than I’m very excited about it", said Nicki.

The Carolina artist feels humbled by the majority of milestones that she has so far achieved and is looking to network just a bit more in the pursuit of taking her career to the next level.
"I’ve been heavily focused on building my musical network as well as targeting more sync placements in film and TV. I’ve thrown in a few performances over the past couple of years along with releasing several more singles including the song Picture Yourself which was the closing credits song for the award winning Indie Film, Mother, by ASD Media and Entertainment",
"Aside from being placed on the 1st round Grammy ballot for the past 5 years, I’m honored to have been nominated and/or received multiple songwriting awards including most recently a Hollywood Music In Media Award nomination for my song Captain America and a nomination and a win for the public vote award in Pop/Rock from the Global Peace Song awards for my song Together We Stand", she said.

Though the singer has held her own in the industry for a good 7 years now, she's been singing, performing, and writing since her teens.
"I actually had my first live performance when I was 6. Commercially, things started to pick up after I released my first single, My Christmas Wish in 2011 and subsequent debut album, I Come Alive, in 2013. Both releases went on to achieve radio success, and several tracks from I Come Alive made the 1st round ballot for the Grammy Awards, and were featured in TV shows such as Lifetime’s Dance Moms, The View, and MTV as well as earning several songwriting awards.
"A year after I Come Alive, I released my EP - Dream Big an Americana/Country influenced EP. The songs from Dream Big received radio play worldwide, earned some more 1st round ballot placements for the Grammy Awards and were again featured in TV shows and songwriting contests globally", she said.

Even with all her accomplishments so far, Nicki concedes that it is not as rosy as she'd like it to be.
"My journey so far has been challenging yet rewarding at the same time. While I have been blessed with having music placed in TV and Film as well as being placed on the 1st round Grammy ballot several times, I still encounter roadblocks on a daily basis, such as the shift to streaming, over saturation, building a fan base, trying to get radio play, etc.
"You don’t just wake up and get your music on the radio and gain 1000s of twitter followers. You have to work at it, every day", said the singer.

She also has a surprise for, not only her followers but music lovers worldwide who will be subscribing to her website in the coming weeks.
"The best way for people to stay up to date on the pre-sale and subsequent release is to sign up for my newsletter at www.nickikris.com. Right now, is the best time to do that too, as I’m currently giving away four (4) of my songs for FREE with each new subscription", she said.
