Jaywan Inc : The Man Behind the Music

With a career spanning well over 15 years, a successful one at that, US music producer Jaywan is easily the go-to-guy for many artists. His track record alone is no doubt a guarantee that you are sure to get your money's worth!

Urban Craft had the opportunity to chat with the celebrated production maestro a while back and he helped us piece together his remarkable journey so far.
Having signed his very first publishing deal with EMI back in 2007, Jaywan went on to sign another 5 year publishing deal with Universal in 2011. In 2010, he formed his own company, Jaywan Inc and signed a distribution deal with Universal Music Group that same year.
A year later, he was to take up his first A&R position at Atlantic Records and then took up the same position at Universal in 2014.
Jaywan has been nominated for a Grammy for the work that he did with Trey Songz and also gone on to accumulate about 100+ placements.
He has scored music for TV shows such as MTV's Guy Code and Girl Code as well as doing several licensing deals with Viacom, MTV, MTV2, VH1, E!, Style Network, ESPN, FOX Sports, etc.

Jaywan remembers the project that gave him his very first break and how it opened up doors of opportunity from thereon.
"The turning point in my career would have to be when Aaron Bay-Schuck (currently the President of Interscope Geffen A&M Records) reached out to me in 2007 to produce T.I.'s lead single with Trey Songz. The song was supposed to be the lead single off his new album. I had actually sent him a CD of about 15 beats 4 months prior and I guess he had just gotten around to listening to it.
"He called me and said he wanted this specific beat for Tip's new single. Unfortunately, after the song was recorded he was arrested by the FBI for all the guns and the album was shelved. But that was my first break and it opened up a lot of opportunities not just with Atlantic but with several other projects", said Jaywan.

Apart from his Grammy nominated work with Trey Songz back in 2010, he has also produced for several artists such as Jeezy, Twista, Kevin Gates, Bone Thugs, Boosie, Nipsey Hussle, Kid Ink, Jim Jones, and several others.

The talented producer took the oppprtunity to shed light on a couple of upcoming productions that we can expect to hear in the coming months.
"Just produced several songs for Kid Ink's new album. He just sent me the single we did yesterday. Should be dropping this summer. Working on Jeezy's last project, Nipsey's new record, Twista's new album, and actually my passion project I produced 2 songs on is a Twista/Do Or Die album that is being shopped around for distribution right now. "Probably shouldn't have said anything about it yet but I guess the world will hear about it first right now. Being from Chicago and growing up in the 90's, those are legendary artists from where I'm from and some of my favorite artists ever. I'm so excited to have been a part of that project", he said.

Having achieved all that he has so far and with a lot more milestones to come, it's no wonder Jaywan  is already preparing for the next chapter in his life.
"I'd like to generate over a million dollars in publishing revenue this year from producing and my long-term goals would be to retire by the age of 40 and live off my royalties and publishing for the rest of my life", he said.
