Virginie Still 'Laughing With The Raindrops' 5 Years Later

Upon moving to the UK, singer/songwriter Virginie Lacour-Puiboube is quoted as having said she felt an "irresistible juvenile desire to form a band". Fast forward to a few years later and the Paris, France born musician had put together quite an amazing group of artists who today are performing under the name Laughing With The Raindrops.
"I sing and play guitar, grapple with a prehistoric version of Cubase and lead/organise creative Performing Arts workshops for children. As mentioned in a previous interview with Megastar Gongle (now in hiding from cyberspace) I moved to the UK many years ago: "The vibrant music scene was alluring and I had an irresistible juvenile desire to form a band in London". I am the founder and band leader of Laughing With The Raindrops, a polymorphous combo playing my eclectic music since 2013 (with a few covers added sometimes in live work).
"The industry is an ‘interesting’ place… I feel in many ways I have exceeded my targets releasing an ambitious album in late 2016. I wrote all the songs, 90% of the arrangements and two band members, bassist Alexander Keen and pianist Gabriel Keen co-produced it with me and wrote some superb horn arrangements. Some fantastic Jazz musicians played on the recordings and the overall finished product is musically pleasing. I have been very lucky to have those people contributing to this project", said Virginie.

Some of the musicians who have over the last 5 years made Laughing With The Raindrops into the band that it is today have also shared the stage with quite a number of internationally recognized stars, with 'Queen of Pop', Madonna among those.
"This project was a career-defining moment when I found out that those amazing session guys were happy to play my music. Most musicians on the album and those who currently gig with me, have been playing with big names, from Dave Gilmour to Madonna, via Imagination and they are happy to play with little me. I get the quality without the hassle of fame! (giggles).
"Since 2013, it’s been a very nice ride really. A recent addition to the band is Ennis Langdon, a fantastic singer with whom I really enjoy working. The chemistry is amazing! We will be doing more gigs and I will be writing more songs for the rest of the year.
"For the foreseeable future, the line-up for live work is: Jon Desbruslais - drums, Gabriel Keen - piano/keys, Alexander Keen - bass, Ennis Langdon - vocals, Virginie Lacour-Puiboube – vocals and guitar", she said.

Before Laughing With The Raindrops became a reality, Lacour-Puiboube had experimented with a number of other musical projects.
"Over the years I have jammed with friends, played guitar with an all-girl Reggae band, studied Jazz harmony, played in a Serge Gainsbourg tribute all-girl trio but was mainly active on the Jazz scene alongside bassist Alexander Keen and pianist Gabriel Keen.
"Together we formed successively Piano di Lavoro, a 13-piece band featuring a woodwind section, Baton Rouge, a vocal-led 7-piece and finally became Laughing With The Raindrops in 2013. Laughing With The Raindrops showcases my songs at their best", said Lacour-Puiboube.

Looking ahead, the musician wants to engage more with the fans and as such is focused on more live shows in the coming months. Besides that, she and her band will be in the studio making more wonderful music.
"Right now, career-wise, I am trying to get more live work that will help build a following and sell CDs. I would also like to organise a mini tour in France for Summer 2019. I think what we do is original and has a warm engaging vibe, when we play live. The set we play is a blend of my original compositions with an eclectic collection from the French and American Jazz repertoires which makes for a varied show that audiences find interesting and fun.
"I am writing songs for a new record, an EP that will be released on vinyl. I am also writing the score for my daughter’s film which is an adaptation of Kellie Powell’s play ‘DOGFACE’", said Virginie.
