One on One with Paul Thomas

Urban Craft magazine recently had the privilege of interviewing UK lyricist, Paul Thomas, who was more than happy to entertain our questions - and in so doing - gave us an idea of his journey in the business so far and just how far he intends to take his career.

Below is how our conversation went..........

(Q) For the benefit of our readers, would you mind telling us a bit about yourself and just how far you've come in the industry?

(A) _My name is Paul Robert Thomas (a.k.a. Paul Thomas a.k.a. 'Paul Lyricist') & I am a song lyricist (try saying that after a few beers:)! I was born & grew up in North London, UK with Camden Town, Swiss Cottage, Primrose Hill & Regents Park as my playgrounds and in my teens I would sell hot dogs outside the famous Roundhouse in Chalk Farm near my home where I met and spoke with many famous personalities including Andy Warhol. I have some Welsh blood in me too as my mother & grandmother were from Wales.
I am a former London Police Officer and I took the London Metropolitan Police to court because of their racist treatment of me and I beat them in court and during the period of being at home waiting for the court case to start, I started to write song lyrics and I now work with bands & artists the world over in creating songs with the aim of releasing the songs on albums or as downloads. My  latest and most active collaboration is with ex-Londoner Paul Odiase in a collaboration called 'Les Paul's ('The Paul's') - as we are both named 'Paul at https://www.facebook.com/LesPaulsThePauls and on our web-page at http://bit.ly/weblespaulsthepauls, our songs & albums can be heard at http://www.paullyrics.com/released-albums.

(Q) What would you say was the turning point in your career and how has the journey in the industry been thus far?

(A) _I think starting to write lyrics, as I always wrote poetry before and my first songs were with a composer, Stefan Pauleit from near Kiel in Northern Germany who I made contact with through a Dylan fan magazine and we were known as The Grils and made some good songs including a song called Sold My Soul To The Devil that elicited a response, a letter from the late great Robert Johnsons grandson that can be read at http://www.paullyrics.com/letter-to-me-from-robert-johnsons-grandson/ and so after that I opened sites on My Space and a number of sites on Reverbnation including at www.reverbnation.com/paulrobertthomas, where I am number 4 in the London Blues charts, to eventually opening my own website at http://www.paullyrics.com where you'll discover what the legendary Andy Warhol said to me when we met in London, what the late great Robert Johnson's grandson wrote to me & what Buckingham Palace wrote to me re. a song of ours.
No-one should ever forget that "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side" (Hunter S. Thompson).

(Q) Any accolades/achievements to your name?

(A) _We were proud and honoured to have been asked by a charity to create a song to help provide clean drinking water to the orphaned children of an African village. The song is called The Children of the Dust and is a charity single that you can check out and show your support for at http://www.paullyrics.com/album/children-of-the-dust-by-les-pauls-the-pauls.

(Q) Can you give us an insight into your professional career and some of the work/projects you have been involved in thus far?

(A) _With 'Les Paul's' (The Paul's) we have released 11 albums including our latest sensational and controversial new album 'An American Landscape - Scared of America Volume Two' that covers subjects such as the abuse and mistreatment of the Native Indians, racial discrimination, child abuse/pedophilia, Hollywood, Elvis and much, much more and was released at the end of July this year that you can check out at http://bit.ly/2LDOkTp
I have also released various other albums and songs with different artists including Angela Predhomme who writes songs for US sitcoms including 'Friends', with Tony Rees the playwright of the musical Jeykll and many more varied artists and you can check out all of my released albums at http://www.paullyrics.com/released-albums as well as all the released songs at http://www.paullyrics.com/officially-released-songs.

(Q) What are you working on right now that we can look forward to. Please provide us with the particular details?

(A)_ We,  'Les Paul's' (The Paul's), have already started on our next album to be called I'm Not There Britannia which, as you might have guessed from the title, will focus our attentions on the demise of The UK and you can hear a rough mix of the title reggae song that opens with the Queens reaction to the death of Diana at http://bit.ly/2PJBdPL!

(Q) What are your immediate and long-term goals?

(A) _To live a happy and healthy long life always writing song lyrics made into great songs that more and more people will listen to and will appreciate:)!
