Lesedi Brings Smiles to Youth Centre

Stunning South African model and finalist in the Face of Miss Signature peagent, Lesedi Hlatywayo describes being able to put smiles on the faces of kids at her recent “Embrace Your Differences “ charity event as the highlight of her day.

The event, held at Sithabile Youth and Care Centre in Putfontein, Benoni over the weekend was aimed at encouraging the younger generation to do all they can in pursuing their goals and never to give up.
“The whole idea behind the event was to inspire and motivate the kids at the center, to encourage them to work towards their dreams and always remember that they shouldn't be victims of their circumstance.
“My aim with this event was not only to encourage the kids to work towards being a success but to spend the day with and simply making them  happy, seeing all of them enjoying the day and a simple smile on their faces was truly the highlight of my day”, said Lesedi.

Working with the youth is something that is clearly close to the model’s heart and she didn’t have to think twice when the opportunity to do something for this particular age group arose.
“As a finalist for Face of Miss Signature 2018, I was required to do a charity project, and I decided to work with the youth centre because it is easier for me to relate to them, as I understand the struggles they face because I too have gone through them. Signature Cosmetics sponsored R2000 worth of products for the kids as well R1000 for my expenses but I chose to use the money to buy food for the centre”, she said.

Invited guests who took time to speak to the kids included Chané van Eeden (ambassador of SWITCH, an anti-bullying initiative), Mncedi Koboka (founder of Young Leaders of Tomorrow), Tebogo Mphahlele (founder of Lead #YoungSA), as well as Mbuso and Mbusi Tetwayo from Alpha Activ, who partook in fun activities with the children.

Reflecting on the event in hindsight, Lesedi said she was overwhelmed by the support from the community and believes that it was a worthwhile experience for the kids and everyone in attendance.
“The response from the community was nothing short of positive, those in attendance were truly happy because, not only did the kids receive gifts but they also learned a lot.
“I believe I achieved my goal, the youth of today face a lot of challenges and the kids at the youth center, like most youths everywhere, may not be having those all-important conversations, such as bullying, mental health and motivational conversations, that is why I invited the speakers, to make the day both fun and educational”, said the dazzling beauty.

Buoyed by the success of her recent charity drive, Hlatywayo looks to end the year on a high note and that starts with the Face of Miss Signature Finals on the 1st of December.
“I will be participating in the Face of Miss Signature Finals which will be held on the 1st of December in Forest Hill City Shopping Center. Apart from that, I will also be participating in two international pageants, I am Miss Culture South Africa 2018 and so I will be representing South Africa in Miss Culture Worldwide 2018, which will be taking place in Zimbabwe this December. I’m also looking forward to representing my country in the Philippines during the Miss Glamour Look International 2019 next year (February)”, she said.
