‘Caramello Black’; Young Entrepreneur Who Is Proud Of Her Roots

Her name is Konanani but to those in the modelling industry and her close friends, she is ‘Caramello Black’, and for this inspirational young woman, “the Black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness".

This is her motto and what drives her every new day that she steps out into the world to not only make a difference but leave her mark as well!
“Growing up in a society that deemed the colour I wore ugly for all kinds of reasons was depressing, growing up dark in a house where all my siblings were of a lighter skin tone, I had issues with myself for the longest time before I picked myself up and started seeing myself with a renewed vision. I had to go back to the mirror and fall in love with me and that changed everything”, said Konanani.

The South African fashion, commercial print, body part and hair model is as self-assured as they come and is focused on playing her part in as far as the growth of the motherland is concerned.
“Ramakulukusha Konanani is the name, a rare black diamond, a beautiful daughter of beautiful mother Africa, a student of life, unapologetically black,  the present future of Africa, a young woman who is determined to not only put herself on the map but also passionate about contributing towards the growth of her motherland and people...Africa my Africa”, she said.

The Pretoria-based but Limpopo-born entrepreneur remembers where it all began and the moments that shaped her into the beautiful and goal-oriented woman that she is today.
“I was born and bred at Tshakhuma mutsindoni village. I am a third born of four. I had a childhood that was very challenging but it was a happy childhood nevertheless, my mom made it work even when it seemed impossible, we thank God for her, I grew up with my three siblings, the most wonderful people I've ever met, my home was the loud laughter – storytelling - sleep at 03:00am telling stories type of house”, she recounted.

konanani counts being a brand ambassador for "Zwithu Zwi Ntha" clothing brand (2019), model for Soft n Free hair competition (2018), Yookoo Rides Influencers (2019), Miss Beauty and Brains (2017), Miss Beauty in Christ (2015), among her most notable accomplishments to date.

She has also done a lot of promotional work and worked with the likes of Promi_e_media and Sucre media and is looking to taking her career to the next level.
“The plan is for me to complete my qualification in education, enrol to study media as well (I feel complete on stage) it’s something that I’ve always been interested in and hope to pursue one day , apart from that I’m also focused on building my career to  the level where I am in a position to be a brand ambassador for internationally recognized companies like Adidas, Puma, Nike etc, to be the face of Ponds and any facial and skin product, I wouldn't mind being a regular on billboards as well, advertisements (any type of advert). I would like to work with makeup products as well”, said the 22 year old who is currently pursuing a degree in teaching at the University of South Africa and is soon to follow that up with a masters and PhD.
