Meet Maselo: Producer-Extraordinaire!

He has worked with some of the best musicians in the land and given Zimbabwean music lovers quite a number of classic jams along the way and today, he stands as one of the more recognizable producers and the ‘go-to-guy’ for many local artists who are seeking perfection.
We are talking about none other than Tapiwa Jera, or ‘Maselo’ as he is popularly known in the music circles.

Urban Craft magazine had the pleasure of catching up with the exceptional music producer and talented guitarist --- below are a few excerpts that came from our brief but enlightening chat.
“It hasn’t always been a smooth journey but through hard work and perseverance I have managed to be where I am today. In terms of production I have been fortunate enough to produce quite a number of songs for big artists in Zimbabwe with the majority of the songs have been doing very well on the market‬.
‬“I have managed to produce a couple of hit songs like ‘Dherira’. ‘Chidhafu Dhunda’ by Andy Muridzo,‬
Jah Signal’s ‘Kupinda Mubako’ and Baba Harare’s ‘Hat Dzemurara’, to mention but a few”, said Maselo.

Besides being a producer, he has of course played guitar for a number of household names in and outside Zimbabwe‬.
“Playing the guitar is something that I’m passionate about and I’m always looking for new ways of fine-tuning my skills. A while back I even managed to go for a tour in Sweden where I was doing some guitar lectures, said the producer.

The producer, who has made his name by producing albums for the likes of Andy Muridzo, Mathias Mhere and Progress Chipfumo, among others hopes he can outdo all his previous efforts and keep pushing boundaries in as far as music production is concerned.
“My long term goals are to make more hit songs and also produce international artists‬. Ultimately, I also want to expand my brand and become a music promoter.
“At the present moment I’m in the studio with some very big and talented artists and you will surely be the first to know once those projects are ready for the market”, said Maselo.
