Local rapper Kay Gee 40 believes that it is only a matter of
time before the local music industry catches up to the rest of the globe and that
one way of doing so is putting out material that matches international standards,
in this instance the focus being on music videos.
"Our local music videos are slowly getting there. The
creativity is there. We now have directors who can match any other in the
world.
"What we need now is more state of the art studios and
equipment though", he said.
The Harare-based musician himself just released a music video
barely a week ago that he feels is up there with the best, not only locally but
internationally as well.
The video is that of a remix to Kay Gee 40's chart topping
single '6 Oclock' featuring the likes of Elli-ot, Shugeta, Natasha, JXB Xcklsv
and Nash Da King was directed by ProMedia.
"The official release date for the video was on the
27/01/17 we released the video ON Line. Next week we will be submitting it to
local and regional stations
stations
"We are looking forward to having the video break new
ground regionally and internationally. A big thank you to all the stations who
are giving Zimbabwean music a chance", said Kay Gee 40.
According to the rapper, the video was shot end of last year
in Tynwald South at one of my friend's house.
"The concept of the song or video is just homies having
clean fun no booze or whatsoever. Just partying no extremes though. Just
hanging out enjoying some good music and killing time.
"What makes this video stand out is the fact that
everything that is on it is just us. All the guys who are on set are my friends
and my brother Moses Goustino too.
"We werent trying to be anything we aint. No acting.
The audience can feel the vibe and the energy in it is'nt fake. On the day of
the shoot it was actually raining but we still had lots of fun", said the artist,
whose real name is Trevor Rufaro Goustino.
The song itself [6 O'clock remix] is doing reasonably well
so far on Power Fm's hiphop shows in particular and people are loving it.
The original song made it to number 38 on the Power FM Top
100 and so the expectation from Kay Gee 40 and his team is that the remix will surpass
that.
"The response is awesome. Though we are still to submit
to all the other radio stations, it has been nothing short of great so far",
he said.
So far so good indeed, so what else can we expect from him for
the rest of the year......?
"There is one song i did with Shugeta featuring Mr Noxa
titled "Ndiyerese". That is one song to look out for this year. It is
a track that anyone can relate to. It is a gospel trap song and its a banger, trust
me when I tell you that it is 'blazing'!
"We finished shooting some parts of the video in
Domboshava with Posh. A video for "Chitima Cherudo" is also coming
soon so keep your ears to the ground", said Kay Gee 40.
