Our writer Peter Tanyanyiwa (PT) caught up with rnb
sensation, Ruvimbo 'RUE' Karimazondo for a brief chat.
The young woman opened up about her career, her family life
and a whole lot more. Below are excerpts from that interview.
PT. When and how did
your music journey start?
Rue. I started singing when I was 6 it's the one thing I
found soles in. I felt people listened when I sang and I was at peace.
PT. Can you describe
to us your family member's musical interests and abilities?
Rue. My younger brother Taku sings aswell but not full time
yet. We are all very diverse in the sense that there are certain genres we all
like then it varies the deeper we get into it.. We are very outspoken, loud
group of people who care about family.
PT. Which famous
musicians do you admire? Why?
Rue. From a vocalist perspective Adele she has 22 Grammies
on 2 albums that is admirable and motivating that anything can be achieved.
Beyoncé her stage presence as a
performer is golden
PT. Role models?
Jessie J,Keke Palmer,Khelani,Beyoncé,Adele,Demi Lovato,Kelly Rowland.. Too many to list
all.
PT. What are some of
your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?
Rue. Fondest music moments are the concerts iv attended and
you see the artistry and little detail that goes into the show of a life time..
When I performed at unplugged 2015 was a moment for me because it's where I
started finding myself as an artist. Then Antoinettes Fashion show end of Sep
2016 I performed Reason for the first time infact my own song and the reception
was humbling
PT. Where did you
draw influence from?
Rue. Definitely Eritha Franklin At Last, Whitney Houston
Bodyguard.
PT. Who are your
favorite musicians? Groups? CD's?
Rue. Chris Brown,Tory Lanez, Keke Palmer,Justin Bieber,
Khelani, Jessie J, Fifth Harmony,Ariana Grande
PT. Have you
participated in any competitions? Won Any prizes?
Rue. Yes I was in Musical Iconz a singing competition in
Malaysia 2012 won that show and they offered me a contract but I didnt take it
up because they weren't willing to negotiate and what they were offering I was
basically a slave
PT. Do you perform in
public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV?
Rue. Yes I have performed at Pariah,Unplugged, The Fashion
Show,Musical Iconz
PT. What advice would
you give to beginners who are nervous?
Rue. I would say think of something that helps u calm down
and let ur craft take over u.. Whether you dance, sing or play an instrument
connect urself to what your performing
PT. How often and for
how long do you practice?
Rue. Everyday to be honest because I am my hardest critic
and I always want to do and sound better
PT. How do you
balance your music with other obligations - partner, job?
Rue. I recently graduated with a BBA in Business
Administration in Marketing and finding a job is a bit difficult because of the
crisis at the moment. So right now my main focus is creating more material
musically EP which is what I'm working on. It's going to have 6 tracks working
with some amazing people who understand my direction and help me.
