After announcing himself on the local comedy landscape late last
year with a debut LIVE DVD titled 'IAmNceku', 23-year old Thuba Nceku Sibanda has
taken to the industry like a fish to water!
From perfoming to full houses, to embarking on international
tours, the funnyman is definitely on his way to the top and is doing so one laugh
at a time!
Urban Craft caught up with the Bulawayo-based comedian and below
is how our brief, but enlightening chat with him went down;
When was the IAmNceku
DVD officially launched and where?
The DVD was launched on the 23rd of Dec @ the Robert Sibson
Hall (Zim Music Academy)
The DVD talks about life in general, it is not only comedy
but it shares some of life's lessons that include marriage, personality, life in
Christ and motivation among other things. The DVD touches almost on every
social aspect there is today.
Where do you draw inspiration
from when it comes to your work?
I am inspired by all the comedic greats that have kept people
entertained and laughing over the decades. In recent past, one of those exceptional
and inspirational talents has been Trevor Noah, he has put the African continent
on the comedic map!
Did the show itself go
according to your expectations?
In short, the DVD launch went accordingly..the crowd attendance
figures were very positive and so was the whole atmosphere ...everything from the
set itself to the music was on point.
In the afternath of
the launch, what has the response from the fans been like?
Following the launch, the response from the fans has been quite
overwhelming, to say the least. They have been there from the very onset of this
project was still in its infancy and they were 'super positive' even in the lead-up
to the debut live show.
Any lessons that you have
picked up so far in your sojourn into the entertainment industry?
Like anyone whose work involves being on stage and entertaining
all manner of crowds, one of the biggest lessons that I learnt was of course dealing
with stage fright.
Before getting on stage, I have to clear my head of any doubt
whatsoever into and I have spent considerable time, and many sleepless nights if
I might add, perfecting my craft and the art of how to keep my audience entertained.
Can you tell us more about
your upcoming tour of the UK?
The show is a joint invitation from the UK promoters with Dr
Tumi from South Africa and Zimbabwe's own Sebastian Magacha being the main drawcards...I
am going to be the guest MC so I will naturally get the chance to interlace and
spice up the show with my skits in the process.
As an emerging talent, this I believe is a unique opportunity
and the nation can rest assured that I will not disappoint.
What's next for Nceku?
There are always steps that as an individual you can not
predict ..obviously but my next step starts with planning the next live show and
everything else falls into place from thereon.
What can the nation look
forward to seeing from you in the not-so-distant future?
The nation can and should expect more and more surprises
from hereon ...being a comedian, it means that those surprises will surely be endless
......just watch this space!
Besides the comedy
and music, what else takes up your time?
Away from the comedic stage I am also an academic doing Communication
Studies at Lupane State University, so that keeps me occupied and so does my music
career.
What are your plans for
the rest of the year and beyond?
Plans are to enlarge the territory ..this is definitely going
worldwide! The idea is coming up with as many live shows as possible and doing
international tours as well.
