Sidney also known as 'Sleekstar' is widely known for his
various hit singles through out Matabeleland. Focusing and following up on
trends by Sidney we find him remaking the old Señorita track by Sleekrick,
making a new version of the song. The old version of Señorita featured Sidney and
was a major hit in Matabeleland back in 2014 when the two where still working
together at 5star Entertainment which is a Matabeleland brand owned by Sidney.
This year we see Sydney taking a huge move turning things around and releasing
a new jam tittled Señorita which is making waves currently in Matabeleland as
you read this. Sleekrick on the other hand, after many years he parted ways
with the 5star brand and feels Sydney is taking advantage of his music. Somehow,
he feels 'ovepowered' so he took to social media telling people that Sydney did
not ask for permission from him "Sleekrick" to remake a new version
of Señorita Sleekrick's old song featuring Sydney. As Brayzz Media enterprises
we went on to interview Sidney to hear what he had to say about this situation and
this is how my interview went with Sydney . . .
Keilloe > Hie Sidney please give us a short insight into
who Sidney is and what he does?
Sidney > Hie Keilloe, thanks for this interview. I am
Sidney by birth known as Sleekstar mostly in Matabeleland, I am 21 years old
self motivated musician from the city of many tribes Hwange shine. I am also a
film and television production student @ Midlands State University.
Keilloe > Who influenced the change from sleekstar to
Sidney?
Sidney > Mostly I thought of it alone this other day
while in the studio working on the new and trending Señorita and I heard a
sound I had never heard before coming from within and from there i knew I had
found myself a band so I ook up singing because sleekstar was influenced by
rap/hiphop but it had no soul for me as I wanted people to take me seriously as
a music brand. Besides I wouldn't go deeper but the name was given to me i had
no part in creating it or making it up.
Keilloe > Who is your target audience and what do they
expect from your work?
Sidney > Currently I am getting my sound and face known
as well as being recognised not only in Matabeleland but also throughout zim. I
would like to make more hit tracks climbing the ladder as I go, we are working
with a few companies that are interested in the growth and expansion of the
brand. My fashion base is also on designs and we shooting more visuals. The
Señorita video is also under construction, it is coming along.
Keilloe > Tell us about the new senorita track, what
influenced you tot remake the jam?
Sidney > The song at first I honestly just did it and
didn't like it, but then I was in the studio in Gweru with @djzeethebest &
@iamtgdj and i received a video call from my girl and she sang the chorus from
there I just told her I was remaking the song especially for her.
Keilloe > I am sure you are aware that after Sleekrick
posted about the new Señorita tract the social media has been saying alot of
stuff & Sleekrick is saying it wasn't proper for you to do the new version
of Señorita without Ricky's acknowledge & permission what do you have to
say about this?
Sidney > Artists should understand music and business as
well. I registered that old Señorita song with Zimura, I paid for the artwork, bought
the beat from my own pocket, took it to radio, I am the one that performed it
on all my shows without Sleekrick, I wrote the lyrics of the song, I paid for
the production and @5starentzw ™ released the single and I did
the distribution and marketing of that track back in 2014.
So how does it make it his song? And why should I seek his
permission? To remake the song?
Keilloe > Okay i get you and everything you went through
to get the track out while your partner was sleeping. What do you think about
the original Señorita track you did with Sleekrick? And what's the difference
between the new one and the old one?
Sidney > On the Original song people only liked the
chorus and they could sing to it very well, but didn't give a (censored) about
the other parts so I set down with my colleague in team Sidney, then I decided
and came up with this new Señorita track which already I can say its a hit.
Keilloe > Interesting so what efforts are you putting
forward to promote entertainment in your region?
Sidney > I have a brand which i built @5starentzw we are
currently busy planning shows for upcoming artists, we doing artists photoshoot
and we do music for our region and we are truly proud of our region
Matabeleland.
Keilloe > Do you have any other projects you're working
on besides the new Señorita hit track obviously?
Sidney > I am working on three more singles and visuals too,
tours, radio interviews, international tours.
Keilloe > Give us a short profile of your business
@5starentzw . . .
Sidney > For now I can not sharw much about the 5star
business profile, what I am however allowed to say is that the Sidney tees are
coming soon.
Keilloe > How best can people get in touch with you?
Sidney > Simple they can reach me on
Facebook/Instagram/twitter/YouTube/Snapchat @sidneysid263 @5starentzw
@savageclothingg
WhatsApp hotline +263773922188
Keilloe > Nice will surely check them out, any advice you
can give to upcoming acts who might be reading this?
Sidney > Be yourself work with better people, lose bad
friends and grind hard.
Keilloe > Last words . . .
Sidney > Thanks Keilloe for this awesome interview thanks
to Brayzz africa for making it possible. Sidney is the name.
Keilloe > There you have it, according to Sidney on this
article we found out that the old Señorita track was sourced by Sidney from
production, buying the beat, artworks, marketing and all was done by Sidney
while his partner Ricky on the other hand was sleeping. We can easily dismiss
issues like these but from a personal view I've heard both the jams the old
Senorita and the new Señorita and I like the new version better but still the
old version is still stuck in my head especially the chorus.
> Matabeleland just got way better and Brayzz Africa is
partnering with several magazines in the entertainment sector to give
Matabeleland acts a platform to showcase their different skills and shine. Now
you also can be part of this by telling us who you want us to interview next on
this platform.
