South African singer/songwriter Yasirah Bhelz has just unleashed a brand new single onto the market titled ‘Igama lami’.
Loosely translated ‘Igama lami’ means “my name” in IsiXhosa.  Yasirah Bhelz fused different sounds from Hip-hop, Pop to House tribal to appeal to variety of listeners.
The ‘Noqathiko’ hitmaker definitely sets her fans free with this brand new summer banger and her infused IsiXhoza and English lyrical content makes the song more energetic. The catchy summer tune goes a long way in showcasing how Yasirah Bhelz experiments with different tunes to get the perfect sound. The Black Motion produced up-tempo song is about a woman in love with her man.

For the breathtakingly beautiful singer, inspiration for Igama lami came as a result of her self-discovering journey as an artist.  “It was the beginning of realizing and accepting that I am a tribal artist. I needed to understand myself.  I found my soul and this song portrays that,” says Yasirah Bhelz.

The multi award winner and Metro FM awards nominee, has produced a rare sound with the music duo Black Motion, which is behind the African beat whilst Vintage Production adds the hip-hop flavor on the single.  Both producers tapped into the new sound by Yasirah Bhelz.

Yasirah Bhelz has worked with some of the most notable names in the industry, the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Moonchild Saneli, Black Motion, Trademark, DJ Navez, DJ Spectacular and Busiswa, to mention but a few.

Artist Biography

Singer/actress/songwriter Yolanda Ruiters, better known in the entertainment circles as Yasirah Bhelz was born in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape. Yasirah inherited the music gene from her father who was also a musician in a small Karoo town called Molteno. The songstress knew from an early age exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up, she wanted to be a musician and that is how her journey began.

At the tender age of ten, she started singing in front of her family and during church gatherings to perfect her craft. She found being on stage fulfilling and it made her feel whole. Self-discovery and being true to herself is her recipe for success.

People from her community started referring to her as ‘Yasirah Raahida’ meaning “lenient leader”.  She loved the name ‘Yasirah Bhelz’ so much that a decision was made to use it when performing.

In 2005, she packed her bags and left South Africa for greener pastures and spent eight years in Leeds, England.  By 2006, she was signed to a music company and her talent flourished as she toured England.  She performed numerous times during black month at the British Museum, stadiums and clubs.

Yasirah Bhelz’s sound is sensual and her music has strength and delicacy, it is rooted --- it makes for beautiful listening.   The multi-talented being writes her own songs and as well as composing for others.
The singer/songwriter writes for the stable Kalawa Jazmee, and made the credits on Spikiri’s 2.5's album.  She has also written for Revolution, Black Motion and DJ Maphorisa. She was also featured on a couple of songs on DJ Maphorisa’s album.

Because of her strong belief in being unique and doing things her way, her music embodies her many characteristics and vocal abilities. She looks up to the likes of the late Brenda Fassie and Thandiswa Mazwai.

From small to big screens

Apart from music, Yasirah Bhelz is also passionate about acting.  In 2017 she played a lead role in an international award-winning movie titled Pop Lock and Roll.  She also featured in England’s theatre work from plays like Carnival Messiah to Othello. In South Africa, she took numerous roles in short films and soapy dramas.
