Having officially announced himself on the music scene courtesy of an EP aptly titled “Gotta Start Somewhere” released at the beginning of the year, Queens-born rapper Nvma (New-Mah) real name Danny Posada is eager to keep exploring the industry in the years to come.

“I was born in Queens and subsequently raised in Brooklyn New York. I’ve always had a love for hiphop and rap since I was a child. The music culture is huge here in NY and lives in so many places. Real rap and hiphop heads know that some of the most fire bars you’ll ever hear are probably at a party or on someone’s stoop. So for me, after years spent free-styling anywhere that people would listen I decided to get into the music business and explore the process of making my music commercially available. This past January I dropped my first project, which is an EP, titled “Gotta Start Somewhere”. The EP has a lot to do with what I consider an examination of my feelings regarding depression, failed relationships, politics, and contemporary culture.
“My short-term goals are to develop a strong social media presence and begin to build a cult following around my music. It’s not mainstream, and truthfully isn’t for everyone, then again no music created nowadays that's even worth listening too is. Long-term goal is to create good content. I use the word content because I am attempting to reign in my ambitions and also because I have never been the type of person to like only one thing. I love the arts as a whole and that's the perspective I’ll carry with me wherever this journey takes me”, said Nvma while speaking to Urban Craft magazine from his base in New York.

While his exciting foray into the industry lingers, the young man is continuously picking up a lot of positives along the way.

“Thus far, it has been interesting and one of the things I truly appreciated was being involved in a music video with rapper Illanoiz for the single “Down”. It was great to see a pro in action and his lyricism is no joke. Another highlight was actually throwing a small listening party and getting such positive feedback from people I don't even know. It’s an indescribable feeling”, said the New Yorker.

Aside from being a rapper, Posada is also an enthusiastic filmmaker and expressed a strong desire to marry both his passions and see how best they can co-exist.

“So I am a screen writer/actor as well as a rapper. I love film and briefly attended St. Johns University for film production and Screenwriting before dropping out. I’m definitely looking to get back into the business of film production in an attempt to bring the two fields of music and film together and explore the possibilities that exist within both mediums”, he said.

In as far as the music side is concerned, Nvma is busy writing and recording new material with the goal being to release his second EP before year end. Stepping outside of his ‘comfort zone’ is also something that the musician has dedicated himself to from here and onwards.

“I’m hoping to drop my second EP sometime in the 4th quarter of 2019. I’ve begun writing several songs and working with various producers to step a bit outside my comfort zone. I want to make more emotional tracks as well that add in subtle harmonies and melodies from instruments not usually found in mainstream music. My team and I are also working closely to create some short form video content to be distributed via social media to showcase my lyrical abilities but to let listeners delve into some my life experiences that hopefully people can relate too”, said the rapper/filmmaker.

The artist felt obliged to also shed some light in as far as his unique moniker and its origins………..
“Nvma (New-Mah) uses a Roman V in place of the letter u. The real Nvma was actually the second king of Rome before the kings were overthrown at the end of sixth century BC and became a republic. He was rumored to have been able to speak to the god Jupiter, considered to be king of the gods.

“Another reason why I chose the name is that the actual word Pneuma pronounced the same as Nvma, is the ancient Greek word for breath, and of course to breathe is to be alive. In a religious context the word also means spirit or creative force, both of which resonate strongly with my belief in the soul and how it relates to artistic expression”, he explained.
