JBENJI represents the new wave of upcoming Asian-American artists from southern California.
The Orange County, CA artist has been creating a buzz off his music and going a long way in showing everyone that he is a talent that is here to stay.
His timeless melodic style makes him standout as an artist. With his most recent music video “FastLife” (directed by Macedomedia) capturing many of his fans and music listeners’ hearts, it was his debut album “Far From Home” that started his career off with a bang.
Talking about “Far From Home”, the emerging rap star stated that making the project was just as fun as it was therapeutic since it provided him with an ‘escape’.
“While making this project I was in and out of a depression, feeling homesick and my only way through it was music. No two songs display the mental state I was in more than “Far From Home” and “Aint True,” said JBENJI while reflecting on the creative process of the album.
Undoubtedly, JBENJI is making a way for real hiphop and rnb to become a common trend again. This is but the beginning of an enthralling journey ahead for both the artist and his followers, that’s for sure!
“My long term goal is to be consistent with my work ethic, go on tour, travel, inspire people, and to give back to the ones in need. Music is all I know, therefore, I want to expand and go as far as I possibly can with my music career,” JBENJI added.
Having grown up in Orange County, CA the ambitious singer/songwriter is excited at the chance of being able to work at studios and perform at festivals with renowned artists in the music industry.
“Coming from Orange County, CA I struggled most of my life growing up. From living in group homes, to sleeping in the streets, to drug use and violence.
“I remember when I stayed in a group home I was forced to attend school there. I would sneak onto the computers and play some of my music for all the other kids in the classroom. They were amazed at how I had my own songs and they also kept chanting my lyrics after.
“Ever since that day all the kids there would persuade me to freestyle for them during our therapy group sessions. That’s something I’ll never forget. I worked very hard to be able to focus on my music and stay away from trouble. I hated being away from my city but I had no choice in order to grow and be on the right path. I believe that’s what had a big influence on making my album “Far From Home”. My music has a positive outlook towards life. I’m trying to promote the good side of everything. Once I make it I’m going to give back to my people and my community, that’s a promise!” said JBENJI.
