While visiting Colombia recently, Jamaican roots/reggae singer Monsoon caught up with our own Diana Martinez aka ‘Reggaeshanty’ and dropped hints about a brand new EP for 2019 and whole lot more!
Speaking about his much anticipated EP, this is what the gifted reggae musician had to say,
“I am working on an EP for 2019 with Coco Reggae Foundation in Costa Rica. The first single (My Roots) is already out and is being promoted worldwide at this present moment”, he said.
The Coco Reggae Foundation is the brainchild of Costa Rica’s own Jerry Collatin Barrera of course.
Apart from working on getting the brand new EP out, Monsoon said that his plans involved writing more material, recording as much as he can and taking his music to the people through tours in the coming months.
“My goal as of now is to just keep writing and recording, keep touring, and in the long term the goal is to keep contributing towards this industry and culture. For me that means taking on the any other role that I can, from being a promoter, artist manager to being a producer”, added Monsoon.
The chanter is as talented as he decorated when it comes to accolades, this is after all the same artist that won the coveted John Lennon award and for a record 15 years in a row won the Washington DC reggae awards for Best Dj and reggae band. He was also a finalist in the 2012 Jamaica Festival song contest.
“Well I’ve been in the industry for more than 2 decades now. I started out as a dj on sound systems with people in the business like Jonny P, Ninja man, and Shaba Ranks”, he recollected.
The Miami based musician has had the honor of performing for US Presidents, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, something that he still cherishes even up to this day.
“Being here today as a recognized singer/songwriter, performer and band leader is basically me living out my childhood dreams. I have been recording for Warner Chappell for the past 5 years, a few of my songs have been featured on movie sound tracks. I have also performed for president Clinton and Barack Obama”, said the singer, humbly.
