For country musician Matt Kennon the secret to life is simple enough, it is about the journey, not the destination. In other w...
“My journey in the industry has been one that has had its peaks and valleys. I've had a writing deal and written songs for publishers since 2006-07. So I've been doing this professionally now for the better part of 12years. It has just been like a calling to me to be able to reach people through music.
“I moved here to be a singer, became a singer/songwriter and the journey has been amazing, one that is still going and hopefully we can ride this thing out for a long time. At this point in my life and my career, it's all about enjoying the journey, I'm not much worried about the destination”, said Matt.
Nevertheless, the seasoned campaigner is focused on a number of things that he feels will bring him a step closer to his goals.
“My immediate goals are to get back on the radio, get on a major label that can actually exploit my catalogue of songs and the odd 73 songs that we've released independently because they haven't been heard. So my immediate goals are to get a partner in the country music Industry that gets who I am, gets my mission of making music that matters and is able to release those songs.
“I’d like to keep writing with the best writers here in Nashville, Tennessee, keep finding the best songs that I can find or record and put out there. Sometimes people can say whatever it is you wanna say maybe better than you through their life experience. So my long-term goal, yeah, it would be to get a Grammy award but the most important goal I have right now is just to be able to make music for the rest of my life”, said the Nashville based singer/songwriter.
A video to his latest single ‘Love is Stronger’ is reportedly on its way soon and the singer spoke about the importance of the song itself. Apart from the single, Matt has a lot of other projects in the pipeline.
“At the present moment we are working on getting this video for 'love is stronger' out and the song out to radio. This song is so important to me and it’s been a song that I've been looking for, for the better part of 10years and when I found the song it really put the wheels in motion.
“I'm doing a 'Making Music that Matters' campaign that we’ve been doing for several years now. We address suicide prevention, anti-bullying efforts and we got a lot of new merchandise to go along with this campaign, Aside from this new song, we also got a 'Best of Matt Kennon' CD that has 20 songs, including the 2 latest ones that I've just finished working on”, he said.
One cannot ignore Matt’s philanthropic efforts, he is someone who has proven himself to be generous with his time and talents when it comes to a charitable cause.
“Some of the more impactful projects that I've been a part of in my career include working with veterans with PTSD, suicide prevention, anti-bullying efforts, a program that I developed off a song that I wrote called 'You Had to Pick on Me'. The program is called 'Stop The Bull' and I was able to tour 83 schools in the United States, reach over a quarter of a million students and that to me was a very gratifying thing, to be able to go into these schools and be able to reach these kids and make a difference in their lives, they are after all the future of America”, said the country musician.
Ultimately, just being in a position to be able to record music and make a difference in the lives of those around him is the singer’s number one satisfaction.
“To see 'Love is Stronger' on Music Choice and people responding to it, the Randy Travis song that I recorded and just to be able to live out my dream of making music for a living, are some of the highlights of my career. I hope to carry on making a difference and keep making music for a lot longer”, he said.
