Urban Craft magazine had the honor of chatting with exceptional Ukraine-born but Israel-based artist, Olga Shefranov recently.  During our brief but enlightening chat, the artist/designer/illustrator expressed a strong desire to make sure that her amazing work was duly recognized on the international scene in the years to come.
“Every day I try to draw better than the previous day. Recently, I’ve taken it upon myself to draw with the goal being to get my work to as many international exhibitions as possible. I hope my work will be selected and, of course, I dream of one day reaping the rewards of my efforts!”, she said.

For an artist whose numerous works have been used in computer games, decorate a small veterinary clinic, a local beauty and hair salon, she is quite humble and still has her feet firmly planted on the ground.
“I am madly in love with my work. I always want to draw and the inspiration comes from all around me. I like to look at the work of other artists and photographers. Sometimes some kind of color scheme clings to someone else’s work and I want to repeat it. At times it’s the composition that catches one’s eye and it happens that someone's idea becomes a catalyst for my new idea”, said Olga.

Talking about her work, the Israeli-based artist gave us an insight into what she was working on.
“At this present moment my work is centered on the holiday season, more specifically, Christmas, Fall/Harvest, and Halloween. Since I like to draw animals and people, for Halloween my general themes are ravens and black cats”, said Olga

Growing up, Olga really took to drawing like a fish to water, it all came naturally for her. She drew everything and everywhere, especially drawing in a Zoo, which became her favorite place to draw. She studied physics and reached doctorate level at BarIlan University and from thereon she worked as an aerobics trainer and gym trainer.

Along the way Olga even had time to participate in the Miss Israel peagent and actually came in as the 1st Princess at one time!

For several years she worked as a programmer. After finishing her training at the Israel Animation College in Tel-Aviv, Olga worked as a Game Designer and since 2017 she works as a full-time self-employed artist, designer, and illustrator.

Today she is no doubt one of the standout water color artist on the planet and over the years she has participated in a variety of painting and illustration courses and learnt from several well-known artists and illustrators. Even though a lot of things have changed in her life, she still likes to draw animals and show their characters in her work.
“I took part in several local exhibitions and won some contests BUT the highest honor for me is the feedback I received and keep getting from those who purchase my works, those people whose houses are decorated with my art.
“You cannot imagine just how gratifying it is to hear a total stranger say: ‘lovely work and delightful water colors. I get a lot of compliments on it. I put it in a white frame and it looks great!.", she said.

It seems that for Olga there is no satisfaction greater than that which comes from putting smiles on the faces of other people through her work!
