Urban Craft magazine had the honor of interviewing legendary hiphop producer/artist Ras Beats recently and he opened up about his latest projects, his view on the current state of the industry and so much more!
Ras Beats, whose sound is deeply rooted in classic NYC hip hop, and at the same time new and distinctly his own, is of course currently making waves on the music scene with his latest production ''Nueva York Diesel Pt.2', a track by Sully Nomad.
After collaborating on the Ras Beats 'High Five EP' Sully & Ras teamed up for another hard as Nueva York concrete joint.

Below, we picked out a few excerpts from our chat with the respected producer that we thought our readership would enjoy.
STATE OF THE INDUSTRY
Without sounding jaded the streaming way of getting your music heard is tough.
It’s great than anyone anywhere in the world can so easily hear your music but the math just isn’t in musicians favor on that. I appreciate anyone listening to the music I have out there in any way but if buying it is an option that’s definitely felt a lot more by artists and producers like myself.
As far as the music and creativity, it’s good, hiphop’s to my ears definitely been stronger at other times but there are always a lot of talent out there. Plenty of great MCs and producers and all that.
PROJECTS
Right now, currently I’m working on 2 projects with 2 different MCs. I have a project me and Eloh Kush are doing that’s close to being complete.
I did a remix for a song for a DJ Jon Doe project he was on and we connected from there. Also, Killy Shoot and myself are working on a project, we just started but it’s coming together real nice. His gritty style fits my production real well. We working on both projects being released this year.
Also, some production for various artists, I have songs on their way with Vic Spencer, John Jigg$, J Scienide, and a more but I’ll let them announce that when it’s time.
HIGHLIGHTS
My journeys been good, similar to life, it’s easy at times and difficult at other times. More good than bad though.
Highlights, there’s a lot, if I have to slim the list.
Probably my album, working with Roc Marciano, Masta Ace, Sadat X, AG, legendary MCs I’m a fan of. It was really dope to work with them and have the response be so good.
Doing my ep The High 5 recently was great too, on purpose I worked with 5 MCs I haven’t connected with before on it. The energy was dope, you always have your connections and artists you’re comfortable working with, so stepping out of that was interesting.
GOALS
Well, the 2 projects are mentioned before are big, looking forward to getting those done and putting them out, long term I just started working on the idea for the follow up to my 2016 album “Control Your Own”. I have a list of artists I wanna produce but I’ll keep that list to myself for now.
The music is there in my opinion but definitely still have a lot of work to do as far as my music being heard. But I’m working on that.
