Independent upcoming Basel City rapper, Skinny Fresh is best known for his diversified beats, fetching lyrics and a new interpreted, millennial-flavored old school hiphop. Known to rock shows and crowds of all ages and cultures, the rapper is expected to shake things up again with his highly anticipated single “Keep It Real”.
“After the release of my debut album "The Millennials Tape" I decided to become more professional. During the last year I produced a lot of songs which I haven’t released yet since I wanted to focus more on the promotional aspects of the music business first. After digging into this subject and understanding the importance of it for the success of any release I was able to put together a team of promoters and am now ready to start releasing my new high quality songs. The first single "Keep It Real" will drop on the 24th of September 2019.
“From then on I will release a new song every two months. My next goal is to set foot in the US market. The first step into that direction is our upcoming show at Mondo Festival in New York in October. This show means a lot for me since I get to perform in the city that happens to be the birthplace of hiphop. Furthermore, it is a huge success because I am the first rapper from Switzerland who gets to perform in the U.S”, said Skinny Fresh.
Born and raised in Switzerland and son to a pianist and choir director his passion for music dates back to the cradle. At the age of ten, his family moved to San Diego for a year, during which time he found himself drawn towards the hiphop culture and started listening to artists like Cypress Hill and Eminem. At just the age of 14, he participated with one of his demo songs in the Swiss Contest For Highly Gifted Youngsters (WINGS) where he came in first and won a recording deal. Fast forward to 2014, Skinny Fresh won the Swiss Finals of the Emergenza band contest and this eventually led to his discovery by Ives Irie of Delinquent Habits who was immediately fascinated by this young rap artist and decided to collaborate with him. Their collaboration “Bad Love” ultimately convinced Ives Irie to take Skinny Fresh onto the Delinquent Habits “It Could Be Round Two” tour through Europe and Switzerland. As opener and special guest Skinny Fresh was able to win over crowds in numerous European cities and his reputation began to grow.
”In 2014 I won the Swiss Finals of Emergenza Band Contest and shortly after I had the chance to open up for Delinquent Habits. Ives Irie was impressed by my skills and eventually I was able to do a featuring with him (Bad Love). The song was the start of a close friendship on a musical as well as personal sphere. He invited me to join him on the Delinquent Habits "It could be round two" tour through Europe as their official supporting act. During that time I wrote my first album, which also featured Ives Irie. This experience definitely took my career to the next level”, he said.
On the 5th of January 2018, the rapper was to release his debut album “The Millennials Tape”. Maximilian Hardinghaus of the legendary H.O.M.E. Studios in Hamburg rated the 15-track album as one of the best Hip Hop albums he has ever mastered. The second song on the album “All I Need” was chosen by the BHW music group as the opener song of their compilation CD “That Summer, vol. 1”. Furthermore, the compilation project was nominated for the American Independent Music Award 2018. In February 2019 Frank Lenggenhager, founder of the internationally known promotion agency “Lautstark”, decided to work with him.
As a supporting act of international artists such as Delinquent Habits, La Coka Nostra, Onyx and Prop Dylan he sustainably keeps expanding his fanbase. To put it in the words of Sebastian Cole of Glashouseradio “If (Skinny Fresh) is able to keep producing at this particularly high caliber, I have no doubt in my mind that he'll be a significant figure in the next decade of hip-hop's evolution and domination over pop music charts both in the United States and abroad.”
