Urban Craft's own Godfrey Johnson (GA) had had a chat with Brett Anderson (BA) on how he was keeping himself busy during these extraordinary times. Below is how that brief but insightful exchange went down...

GJ: How are you spending your time?

BA: Sho, every time I hear of someone complaining that they are bored my mind kind of explodes because for my wife and I things have just got super busy. For Val because she has jumped into the local CAN (Community Action Network) group and for me because of blogging lockdown related stuff at and also working on a project called Character Stories for Children. Some Improv friend and myself decided it might be fun to create a You Tube channel where each day a character reads a poem or story or does songs for children... And this is launching Monday so crazy busy trying to pull all that together. Otherwise it's baking and killer sudoku and board games and reading and trying hard to not eat all the snacks.

GJ: Do you have any advice for other artists?

BA: Find something to do. Obviously this is a hard time for a lot of artists who rely on live gigs and work for money and so that becomes a primary concern. But it's been amazing watching Ard Mathews do a concert from his roof top and Rob Van Buren do an Instagram Live as Twakkie and so on. A lot of people have been excited about Character Stories for Children and are making story videos for us. Beyond what you need to do to survive find a fun way to share your take with people. There are a lot of bored people out there. Secondly if you don't have a Patreon page where fans support artists with monthly donations give that a look because many fans will love the opportunity to look after their favourite artist and Patreon do an amazing job of looking after their artists.

GJ: What are your plans for the future?

BA: I am interested to see if our You Tube channel gains much interest or traction because that might be a fun thing to continue after the 'homepocalypse'. Otherwise as with most people I think the plan is to rise this out and then assess afterwards when the dust clears because we have no actual idea what the new world will look like yet, just that it will in many ways be profoundly different from the old one. As an improviser maybe we have it a little easier because we are used to thinking on our feet. But also the bigger questions are not going to be about me and mine but those in the margins and how we support them both now and especially after all this is done.
