Godfrey Johnson spoke to singer/ songwriter Chantal, who shared her own experiences under lockdown/quarantine. Find out more about what she had to say in the excerpts below:
GJ: We are still in lockdown, how have you been using this time?
C: The lockdown is an adjustment for everyone particularly musicians who unable to arrange live performances. I also really miss my regular belly-dancing classes. It is not as constructive practicing my routines at home and I miss the human interaction, but I am doing what I can. I am always working on my vocal skills, and it is great that I am able to continue my coaching with online classes. This is also a great opportunity to spend extra time writing and composing new material. I have been working on material for my second album for a while, so this is a good time to consolidate and try to finish the process. I am also using this time as an opportunity to do more meditation, to think and reflect about what is really important in life. I have learned many lessons in life…one of them being that any situation can always be worse. As such, I am truly thankful for what we do have at this moment. The other thing I have learned in life is that everything eventually passes, and this too will pass.
GJ: What are your plans for the future?
C: I have two main focuses for when this lockdown is over; namely, to record my second album and to get back to doing live performances. I am conceptualising a show very different to what I have done before with all my new material, and it is going to incorporate both music and dance beside a narrative. I am very excited about this. It’s going to be powerful and dramatic.
