After enchanting her fans around the world with numerous musical treasures along the way, Afro-soul singer, Nomfusi Ngonyama, is ready to build upon these successes with her inspirational new tune, Ngenene.
Ngenene, a declarative anthem, has taken inspiration from her hardships.
Nomfusi has had many crosses to bear that nearly drove her to a mental institution.
Reflecting on creating this song, Nomfusi says it was a song birthed out of pain, hardships, and reflection.
"The song came in 2018 when I was going through a lot. I was pregnant, losing my home and to add salt to the injury, I was not getting gigs! I thought I was going to lose my mind," she shares.
She adds that it was love that saved her from herself.
" Love saved me from me. Just like it saved me when I lost my mom and sister. I'm not just talking about overnight love but deeper only from within the eternity. I lost my home and after traveling the world and making money I made bad decisions that affected my life.
Nomfusi adds that the experience left her emotionally broken and wounded. This is when she penned the emotionally resonate track, Ngenene.
"The song is about love that cannot be bought. The message is "give love and expect nothing in return". Love heals. I lost my mom at a young age. Death stole love from me. I have many times woken up in the middle of the night crying wishing that my mom was here with me to just say "I love you, my child". I feel this would make my burden easier."
She goes on to say that she has had to 'buy' love from people because of her own insecurities.
"I have tried buying love in relationships and friendships. It was when I looked for love from within that I found real love. I now know how to search for love within me and give it to myself and others. I strongly believe self-love can change everything. The message I want to send through this song is that we ought to love ourselves first before giving love to others. You cannot give what you don't have."
Nomfusi, who traveled the world sharing the stage with artists from all musical persuasions is ready to pick up where she left and take this thunderous lead single to a thirsty public that has been waiting patiently for her comeback.
Produced by award-winning producer, Sam Ngonyama, the single is a foretaste of what to expect on her upcoming album.
"Ngenene will be an inspirational anthem and comforter for anyone going through hardships. Ngenene puts emphases on true love and becoming yourself. We will be hitting the road around the country on a promotion tour in support of the single," says Nomfusi.
