Urban Craft Magazine had the pleasure of speaking to published singer/songwriter Amy Lee Owens about her latest single and a bit more.
Below is how our conversation went down......
What is the inspiration behind the title of your new project. Would you mind sharing with us a bit more information about it?
I wrote my new single "Alone" about depression and addiction. I have suffered from these and it's a very lonely and hopeless state to be in. I really wanted to bring light to these issues. Especially through this covid pandemic, isolation and loneliness has been rampant. It's hard to stay positive all the time and not be drawn to the dark side. But there is also a certain comfort that comes when in depression, it feels comfortable after a while, like an old friend, when it's actually your enemy. I really tried to emulate this in the video, choosing wardrobe and settings that would support the theme.
What are some of the topics and themes that you explored on this particular project?
I explored bringing the issue full circle, to have an inspiring end. If and when people get through depression, the other side can be simply blissful. But I decided to really explore the dark side of depression and stay on that. Focusing on how alone it truly feels.
At the end of the day what do you hope your fans will be able to take away from listening to this project?
I hope I can reach anyone suffering from depression or addiction and let them know that they are NOT alone. And maybe give them some hope. There is light on the other side. I believe the toughest and most compassionate people have been through the darkness and have made it through to inspire others.
Being an artist, how have you been keeping yourself busy during this corona virus pandemic?
I took the time to really focus on myself and my craft. I recorded and released my new single "Alone". Shot the video, which is now released as well. I also shot 2 more videos with a videographer in town. Practicing music was part of my daily routine, as well as working out and taking 3 online courses. In the beginning it was tough, but once it set in that this was our new reality, I just got into work mode and made the best use of my time.
What else can we expect to see or hear from you for the remainder of the year 2020?
I have 2 more songs coming out this year. The next one is called "The Fall"... simply put its about hitting rock bottom and rising up. I do have a common theme with the new songs I am releasing, which is bringing awareness to mental health and addiction. I am also going to be featured on a couple recovery based podcasts in August and September. I have a new band that will be starting up in September. I will continue to push my new song and video and get as much exposure as possible
