Late musical icons Andy Brown and Chiwoniso Maraire touched us all in different ways, their music transcends time, cultural and geological boundaries to this day.

What better way to pay homage to these two great musicians than through the same artform they used to inspire a whole generation of musicians?

Enter one Rejoice Mufaro Mdzingwa!

The rising artist is set to drop her brand new single titled ‘Ndoenda’ this October 31st in honour of these two late icons.

“The original ‘Ndoenda’ song was done by the late Andy Brown and Chiwoniso Maraire. Those two are music legends in their own right and their souls should be remembered. As a way of remembering them we decided to do our own rendition of the ‘Ndoenda’ track giving it an ‘Amapiano Feel”, said Rejoice while speaking to Urban Craft magazine in a recent interview.

The singer delved a little deeper into the track itself, giving us an idea of how the song came together.

“I came up with the idea for this song after having gone through a rough patch. Sometimes you just wish you could fly away to a new place/location, thinking that they are no problems there. I pitched the idea to my producer Deejay Holy who got so excited about the project that by the following morning, anga atogadzira the Instrumental”, said Rejoice.

For Mdzingwa, Andy and Chiwoniso’s music was ‘prophetic’, it speaks to the soul and it’s something that she herself hopes to emulate as her career takes shape.

“You can never talk about the Zimbabwe's music industry with mentioning those two. There are things that inspire me when I look at both artists, when it comes to Chiwoniso Maraire, I admired the powerful voice, how she composed and arranged her music… it was so amazing!

"In as far as Andy is concerned, it was the way he played the guitar, he’s the reason why I intend on becoming a guitarist one-day.  The vocals too, you can literally feel the pain on the Ndoenda song when he sang ‘Chengeto Mwanangu zvapressa. So just growing up listening to that soul touching music it really gives you introspection and motivation to want to be like them one day”, she said.
